Map of Los Angeles - 1938

This 1938 map of Los Angeles shows the streets, boulevards, parks, schools and business centers as they were at the time, before freeways and LAX were built. The future location of LAX shows the Mines Field L.A. Municipal Airport, with its eight small hangars. A series of concentric circles indicates the distance to the intersection between 7th Street and Broadway, at 10 miles, 5 miles, 3 miles, and one mile. Other notable fact is the absence of the Marina, whose construction only began in 1953. The map also shows the Chavez Ravine neighborhoods of La Loma, Palo Verde, and Bishop, before the community was torn down in the 1950s, to later become the site of the Dodger stadium.
